Singing for Goofy Goofs | Whacky, Silly and Musical Ways to Learn Singing
Class experience
In this musical course singers will learn silly songs to warm-up the voice, practice vocal techniques used to strengthen the voice, learn about our bodies with low-impact yoga poses and how we use them to support the voice, and have opportunities to sing through fun songs to practice the concepts learned. This is a 3 week course during the month of August. Class will start with an accessible warm-up exercise and the Technique of the Day, which is sometimes a breathing exercise or an idea...
Singers will learn and develop: - beginning musical concepts like note names, note values, rhythms, and terms - beginning vocal warm-ups and short songs - beginner yoga poses - personal achievement through songs and practice
Please refer to my teacher profile for my experience as a teacher. (TLDR: I have been teaching music for over 20 years, almost all work my experience involves teaching children, I've been a yoga practitioner for 15 years, I have a Masters of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and I sing soprano and narrate audiobooks in New York City.)
- PDF's will be provided upon enrollment. Please reach out if you are concerned about not seeing it. - Water bottles are recommended and advised. - Yoga mats are optional. - Paper/Pencil to take notes if needed.
Regarding the physical practice of yoga, all learners are encouraged to move slowly and mindfully, and have enough flat space around them to remain safe in their surroundings. Water-bottles are recommended, yoga mats are optional. Parental supervision may be needed if learners are unaccustomed to a physical practice. All learners practice yoga at their own risk. The yoga portion is a very small part of class and will be used to identify muscles and how to activate them while singing. Grown-ups will need to be familiar with the functions of audio and visual on Zoom and be nearby to Mute/Unmute if needed, check in with the learner from time to time for safety, and provide some safe space to dance and do yoga poses. There will be times during class where singers will be muted for an optimal audio experience and if there is a lot of background noise. Please familiarize your singers with the mute button and try to get your singer to speak/sing in front of and towards the microphone. Grown-ups are encouraged to be near by to help unmute if needed for the younger singers. Enabling Original Sound in Zoom Audio Settings will help me tremendously with being able to hear your musician make music. It is highly recommended that you Enable Original Sound when doing music classes and attempt a quiet location. Check out this link for more help: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound Class recordings are not available. Short recorded clips of me demonstrating the techniques and songs will be posted after each class for easy reference.
