*There is no need to have any prior singing practice or classes, however, it is helpful if students are able to read. In class, you will learn the basics of singing technique and explore different types of singing styles. The goal is to understand how your voice works and to develop a healthy foundation for singing no matter what you love to sing! Classes structure is very similar to private voice/singing lessons. Students will be guided through warm-ups and technique exercises that are specific to that week's focus (for example: If we are learning about head voice, our exercises will be tailored to our higher register). As we warm up and do our exercises, the teacher will discuss the mechanics of the voice, the importance of the exercises and why we do them, etc. We also will sing some songs that practice that week's focus (this will also introduce students to different styles of music and singing). This class can be taken by younger or older children. Reach out to me if you would like to know if it is the right class for your learner. Some things we focus on: - Intro to the concepts of technique: breath, vocal placement, how to warm-up - Focus on Chest Voice - Focus on Head Voice - Focus on Mix Voice - Focus on Vowels and Vowel Modification - Techniques for Classical Singing - Technique for Pop Singing Super excited to have you join me! Songs for The Month of August - September Week of Aug. 19, ME! - Taylor Swift Week of Aug. 28, Dream A Little Dream Of Me - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong Week of Sept. 1, Only Time - Enya Week of Sept. 9, Running with the Wolves - AURORA Week of Sept. 16, Que Sera Sera - Pink Martini Week of Sept. 23, The Lonely Goatherd - The Sound of Music *There is no need to have any prior singing practice or classes, however, it is helpful if students are able to read.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome! My name is Miss Alix. I love to teach singing techniques that help my students discover their own unique voices and style of expression. I encourage positivity (to yourself and others), fun, and confidence in my classes. I am always so excited to work with my students and that energy never fails to spark creativity and active imaginations*.
A little bit about my credentials and experience: I received my Master of Arts in Musical Theater from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I am a certified singing teacher. I work professionally as an actor and singer performing on stage and in film, as well as narrating audiobooks. I have been teaching kids of various ages for several years and nothing makes me happier than when a student has a performance breakthrough, even if it's just that they've gained some confidence. I was also homeschooled until high school (military family), so I know the ins and outs of homeschool/online school life, and how hard it can be to supplement that education with electives, especially in the arts.
I believe involvement in performing arts is a fantastic and important way for kids to discover who they are and how to express themselves. They learn to be open-minded as they literally put themselves in other people's shoes. The confidence, expressiveness, and empathy that kids learn in performance arts bleed into every aspect of their life.
When I'm not nerding out about performance-related things I love to be outside in nature. If I'm not outside you can usually find me cuddling with my cat reading YA fantasy or watching something Marvel related. And I'll always, always have a cup of coffee nearby.
Happy learning!

Class Policies:
1) I expect all students to be respectful and supportive of themselves and their classmates. My classroom is a safe place to practice, mess up, and make break-throughs. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and you will always learn something by watching your classmates learn.
2) I aim to keep classes within the scheduled time frame, however, classes may run a few minutes under or a few minutes overdue to the energy/participation of students on that specific day.
3) I will start at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom.
4) I will offer full refunds for missed class if I am informed at least 24 hours in advance.
