Class Experience

This is an 8 week class that introduces the student to singing. We will begin our class with a vocal warm-up and then do a unit from our workbook covering different musical theory concepts that singers need to know. We will then sing songs for the remainder of class. Students will learn breathing techniques through various breathing exercises. Students will have opportunities to perform for each other throughout the class. During review weeks, we will use Kahoot to review concepts we have covered, and students will be able to compete against each other.

Week 1: Unit 1- Introduction to Solfege
Week 2: Unit 2- Singing Do to Sol
Week 3: Unit 3- Singing Do to Do
Week 4: Review Week - Review solfeggio Do to Sol
Week 5: Unit 4- Singing a Complete Solfeggio Scale, The Quarter Note and The Half Note
Week 6: Unit 5- Breathing and the whole note
Week 7: Unit 6- Tempo and Dotted Half Note
Week 8: Review Solfeggio Scale and singing with different note values

We will be using the book “140 Folk Tunes” for songs throughout the class to sing. This book and its musical contents are public domain. I will provide a link for your student to download and print the music. I will let students know which page to print for the next class. After class, practice videos (via link to Google Drive) will be provided to help your singer practice. Students will be asked to practice their vocal music three times a week. **The Syllabus is subject to change based on the needs of the class.**
