Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Welcome to Singing 101, a 5-Week Vocal Group Course for Tweens and Teens!

As someone who's been studying voice for over 25 years, I am passionate about equipping young singers with the tools they need to confidently use their voice in a healthy way.

However, as an experienced educator, I also know that sometimes singers can be shy when trying out something new. That is why I create this group course where students will be able to learn as a group, and practice some together, but also have time to independently practice on their own in the comfort of their own home via the after-class homework.

The course structure includes 5 group lessons, with approximately 30 minutes of after class assignments that will need done independently prior to the next lesson. Their responses to the after-class homework will also help me better provide feedback specific to their needs.

*Please see syllabus for specific weekly topics and assignments*

The final class culminates with each student performing a song for the class. After the class is over I will write out personalized feedback for each student privately based on what I heard and observed in class. Though I encourage each student to sing live, if for any reason a student is uncomfortable with this, they can instead send me a video of their performance and receive written feedback after it is viewed.

Learning Goals

By the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate various vocal pitches, sounds, and exercises learned in the class
2. Discuss vocal styles, musical terms, and vocal anatomy correctly
3. Know their full range & vocal growth goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music from Mount Vernon Nazarene University
I am a certified voice and music teacher with a bachelor's degree in music who has been singing (professionally) for nearly 25 years, and teaching music and voice for over 15 years.

It all started at the age of 13 when I began training in the Bel Canto method with Louise Savage, the founder of the Fine Arts Association school in Willoughby Ohio. I studied with her weekly for five full years, during which I recorded 3 CDs and began to sing publicly for several professional and regional events, choirs, and programs. This was the beginning of my musical career.

Since that time, I have continued diverse vocal training with multiple amazing vocal coaches, have had the opportunity to sing in several professional choirs, musical theater productions, and special events in multiple states across the US and have earned a bachelor’s degree in music, with a focus in voice.

In addition to holding a degree music, I have also received the Voice Teacher Certification from New York Vocal Coaching after training 50 hours with renowned founder Justin Stoney.

I am a Florida certified music teacher and have been teaching music and voice both publicly and privately for over 15 years in addition to performing at a professional level within the state. I have been asked to sing the National Anthem 3 times at the Tampa Bay Ray's stadium for a MLB game, have been in productions at both Manatee and Sarasota Players Theaters, performed with the Children's Theater of Michigan, was a member of Sarasota's professional Choral Artists for 10 concerts, and in 2021 sang in several Epcot's Candlelight Processional shows at Walt Disney World.

In addition to those solo endeavors, my husband and I, known as "The Martin Duo" have sung for restaurants, theaters, weddings, and exclusive community yacht and country club events. We are most well-known for our Musical Theater and Show-tune tribute shows alongside of being popular Christmas Carolers throughout the state. We also work as voice-over artists for Worldbook where we can be heard voicing several characters for children's graphic novel audiobooks.

Currently I also work as a voice instructor at one of Nord Angelia's international school campuses. As a voice instructor I can teach various styles of music and how to manipulate the body to produce differing sounds needed for each genre. However, I specialize in coaching full voice use for Musical Theater, Jazz, Classical Cross-over, and Classical styles.

*As a Florida FES-UA/EO and Step Up PEP eligible music elective teacher, my courses are reimbursable for those seeking to utilize their funds for a state approved music elective*
