Word Problems can seem convoluted to students, resulting in confusion. Often students do not even know where to begin solving the questions. This is a multi-day camp that will teach students some heuristic skills to solve certain Math problems.
What is Heuristic?

It is a mental shortcut that allows people to make decision swiftly and efficiently. Heuristic is one of the keystones of Singapore Math. It is not only a tool to help learners solve Mathematical word problems, it is also a skill that develops the learners’ minds to effectively manipulate, see relationships and manoeuvre around the information to solve real world problems.

This camp is highly suitable for students who have a sound foundation in fundamentals of Whole Numbers and Fractions. The word problems are carefully handpicked to scaffold students’ thinking and achieve mastery. This will be enrichment to students who love a challenge and extension to what they have learnt from the regular syllabus.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Graduated from National Institute of Education, the only Teachers' College in Singapore which has produced excellent teachers who have consistently helped students achieve stellar results in national examinations and international assessments like PIRLS, PISA and TIMSS, I have been teaching Mathematics and Science to students between the ages of 6 and 15 since 2009 in Singapore and New Zealand.

If you are looking for a teacher to teach Singapore Math, have confidence with a teacher like me whose tutors in Teachers' College were Dr Yeap Ban Har and Dr Koay Phong Lee, some of the curriculum developers of Singapore Math.

Born and brought up in Singapore until 2016, I have since moved to New Zealand and now living in the Bahamas where I am developing the math curriculum of my current school to use Singapore math.

The lockdowns in New Zealand have allowed me to develop valuable teaching methods online.

Teaching effectively to me is making explanations simple to understand. I do that by using diagrams, models and hands on activities easily created at home.

I choose teaching because it is rewarding when my students are able to apply what they learn in life.
