Description: Welcome to Singapore Math Adventures for First Graders! Join us on an exciting mathematical journey inspired by the renowned Singapore Math curriculum tailored specifically for first-grade learners. In this dynamic Outschool class, young mathematicians will embark on an engaging exploration of fundamental mathematical concepts through hands-on activities, interactive games, and collaborative problem-solving. Throughout this course, students will: Discover Number Sense: Dive into the world of numbers as we explore counting, place value, and basic arithmetic operations in a fun and interactive way. Through games, manipulatives, and real-life examples, students will develop a strong foundation in number sense that will set the stage for future mathematical success. Master Addition and Subtraction: Learn the building blocks of addition and subtraction through engaging activities and visual representations. Students will explore various strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems, including using number bonds, part-whole models, and the bar model method—a hallmark of Singapore Math. Explore Shapes and Patterns: Delve into the fascinating world of geometry and patterns as we identify, classify, and manipulate shapes. Through hands-on activities and interactive games, students will develop spatial reasoning skills and discover the beauty of geometric shapes and patterns all around us. Develop Problem-Solving Skills: Singapore Math is renowned for its emphasis on problem-solving skills. Students will learn how to approach mathematical problems systematically, using strategies such as drawing diagrams, making models, and breaking problems into smaller, manageable parts. Cultivate Critical Thinking: Foster critical thinking skills as we engage in discussions, analyze problems, and explore multiple approaches to solving mathematical challenges. Through guided exploration and inquiry-based learning, students will develop the confidence to tackle new and unfamiliar problems with creativity and perseverance. Encourage Growth Mindset: Cultivate a growth mindset as students embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, and celebrate their successes. Through a supportive and encouraging learning environment, students will develop resilience and a positive attitude towards learning mathematics. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Dr. Wang! I have a Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from a top school in the United States. I have 10+ years of experience teaching classes to college students and high school students. I enjoy teaching STEM subjects to students of all ages. I especially focus on two subjects: Math and Physics. Class topics range from AP Physics C and Calculus BC to Honor Physics and Algebra. I teach with a lot of visual cues and graphing examples because I think those are always extremely helpful for students to understand different concepts. I am a super soccer fan. Nice to meet you all!
