Class Experience

US Grade 1
Learners will complete the Dimensions 1B book in this 18-week long semester course. This course will have assignments posted once a week. There are no live meetings in a flex class.

*Learners must have the required books to take this course. The materials are listed in the "Supply List" section.
*The Test Book is required to receive a grade.

Monday-Friday:
1) The teacher will post each Monday morning, which will include the week's teaching videos, lessons, and assignments. Please tell the teacher if you would like to complete the semester with faster pacing. The video will include the new lesson material and examples.

2) Learners are expected to participate by replying to each post from the teacher each week. The learner can reply by posting the answers to assigned homework, asking questions, or replying to discussion questions. Learners are not required to submit homework, it is optional to submit homework. Learners are expected to contribute to the teacher's posts and conversations. Participation in this regard is mandatory (to reply to each teacher's post to some degree).

3) Required Curriculum Work: Learners are expected to complete the assigned questions from the textbook and workbook assignments each week. The teacher will not be grading all the workbook exercises, however, learners may post their work if they would like to have the teacher review the work (as a photo or typing it out), and not only just the answers. Learners should remember that the answers are in the "Answer Key". Please let your learner know before class begins if they are allowed to write directly in the textbook or not. Some people prefer to reuse the textbook. If learners will not be writing in the textbook, please ensure they are prepared with paper for class.

4) Beyond the Curriculum Work: Learners should complete the activities each day that go with the completed book lesson completed.
4a) Extra Practice, Intensive Practice, Challenging Word Problems: Optional work will be assigned from these three workbooks to supplement the lesson material. These books are optional and are not required.
4b) ixl.com: One or more lessons will be posted. These are optional activities and not required to complete. The teacher will provide the subscription log-in information.
4c) Online Activity: Learners will be provided with online activities to complete for each lesson. For example, SplashLearn, MathPlayground, or other fun games will be suggested. Learners will take a photo of the activity and post it in the lesson thread as a comment.
4d) Real Life Activity: Some lessons may have discussion questions pertaining to real life. If the learner knows how to associate the lesson material with a real-life topic (such as at a job, or shopping, etc), the learner should discuss this in the lesson post.

5) Message the teacher with homework questions as needed. The learner can send photos of the work or message the page and problem numbers. Extra help sessions for a reduced fee can be scheduled.

I enjoy teaching math. I have taught and tutored math for about twenty years. I have my teaching certificate in K-8 elementary school, with a focus in math. I am half way to my master's in secondary math. I really enjoy math. It is very relatable to food and money!
