Sing, Move, & Play! Ongoing Prek/K Music With a Certified Music Teacher

In this fun class, students will complete tasks appropriate for PreK4/Kindergarten level music. This will be focused on pre-music reading activities, LOTS of movement, singing, and building a repertoire of folk songs from around the world.

Assessment
Students will be assessed throughout class verbally and visually (by watching the students participation) by the teacher. This will be informal assessment.

Class Experience

Students do not need previous experience with music for this class. This will be a fun introduction where students are actively engaged in listening to, singing to, and moving to music. 

--MONTHLY THEMES--
This ongoing class will be scheduled on a monthly basis. The music and games used for each theme will vary every lesson, and themes will remain the same. 

Here are the themes for each week:

1. Week of <7/3>:  Fast/Slow
2. Week of <7/10>:  Loud/Quiet
3. Week of <7/17>:  High/Low
4. Week of <7/24>:  Short/Long

Class will follow this routine:

1.) Class Opening- Greeting Songs, Attendance, Rules Review (Looking eyes, listening ears, hands raised!)

2.) Warm Up- We will move our bodies, prepare our ears for listening to music, our eyes for looking at music, and our voices for singing music!

3.) Music Word of the Day- Students will learn a word related to elements of music. We will discuss the word, and apply it 

4.) Musical Transition- A quick fun transition leading to the next activity

5.) Game- We will play a music game which expands students repertoire, trains their ear, reinforces the musical skill of the day

6.) Pre-Reading Activity- We will practice an activity which prepares students for reading music in future grade levels. This will use pictorial notation and visual symbols. Standard musical notation is not used at this level, as this age is important for preparation.

7.) Closing Song- This may be a movement activity or a "Song Story." It will be a fun and happy wrap-up to leave students smiling!
Learning Goals
Students will experience a variety of musical sounds aurally and visually. Students will learn and discuss elements of music, in a setting with lots of movement, listening, and fun. Students will learn to listen to and sing a variety of songs from around the world.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class involves movement. Please ensure learners have an open workout space, proper footwear, a water bottle if needed, and adequate stretching beforehand. Injuries that can occur if not properly supervised.
Supply List
*Not all materials will be used for every class*
Bring a small scarf, rag, towel, etc. to class for movement activities. 
Bring a ball for steady beat activities
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
