Class Experience

Musical Instrument Recognition: Children will begin to recognize individual instruments and discover their unique sounds as they see them in action.

Musical Inspiration: One of my goals as a music educator is to encourage young children to learn musical instruments, and my hope is they’ll become inspired to learn an instrument someday.

Vocal Skills: Children will improve their singing voices and their speaking voices as they learn to project with confidence.

Motor Skills:   Our songs include choreographed hand and body motions that develop children’s sense of rhythm and timing.

Reading Skills: Children strengthen their alphabet skills and increase their vocabulary as they view song lyrics onscreen and associate sounds with words.

Listening Skills:  My music videos sharpen children's listening skills as they learn to recognize and respond to auditory cues.
Creativity:  Children can participate actively in each musical performance, sparking their own musical and artistic creativity.

Musical Appreciation: Children are introduced to world-famous songs that have been cherished by different cultures and many generations.
I am a full-time music teacher, and I operate lesson studios in South Central PA.  One of my specialties is teaching young children and developing methods and materials which ensure success for every child.
Several years ago, I began performing sing-alongs at pre-schools and daycare centers in order to inspire children to try music lessons.  I decided to give the kids an exciting production involving lyrics and images projected on a giant screen, as well as instrumental solos during the songs.  The results were incredible, with an excitement level higher than many concerts I’ve played as a professional musician.
These experiences inspired me to create Sing, Dance, and Discover Music, with a collection of music videos that children can sing and dance along to – in the comfort of their own homes. In order to create a high-quality production, I enlisted the help of a professional cinematographer, as well as a talented performer who encourages children to sing along.
I’ve had the opportunity to develop and test Sing, Dance, and Discover Music with children both at home and in the classroom.  In almost all cases, children have shown progress in terms of singing/vocal improvement; body movements/coordination; and song and musical instrument recognition.  I do also hope and believe I am inspiring children to become some of our future musicians!
Learners have two options:
Option 1: Learners can record and upload a classroom video of themselves singing and dancing to one of the songs from this week’s class.
Option 2: Learners who are “performance shy” may prefer to submit coloring sheets of our Animal Musicians and their instruments.  Each week, I will provide coloring sheets with animal characters and their musical instruments.
Whether performing or coloring, every learner’s assignment involves creativity and will receive personal teacher feedback.
*Extra Activity: Character Stories
Children will also receive character stories about each week’s Animal Musicians. For parents of children who are non-readers: Parents may read the stories aloud to their children for enjoyment and discussion.
After each class, I will post coloring activity PDF’s with that week’s Animal Musicians and their musical instruments.
I will provide personal teacher feedback for all submitted assignments.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This class has been tested with young children at different developmental stages.  3- or 4-year-olds may need parent assistance to help click through the slides, whereas most 5- or 6-year-olds will have no problem navigating the presentation on their own.  Each week, I will provide a secure URL web link to the presentation and will post the after-class learning. does not require account creation.
