Supply List
Students need to be in a quiet and distraction-free environment for the duration of the class. Cameras must be turned on because I need to visualize what the student is doing with their singing voice (mouth shape, posture, breathing) in addition to hearing their sound. Students should download the sheet music prior to class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! I’m so happy that you’ve come to my page - and hopefully you’re here because you have a desire to learn something about one (or all) of the following: MUSICAL THEATER, SINGING, MUSIC APPRECIATION/HISTORY, AUDITION PREP, and BUILDING YOUR CONFIDENCE THROUGH THE PERFORMING ARTS!

****In addition, I am now adding classes using elements of music that enhance the study of historical topics!****

Whatever your experience level, I’m certain that if you sign up for one of my classes here on Outschool, growth will be guaranteed - if you are willing to do your part and put in the work required! Some classes, such as composer-specific or audition prep-based topics, will require more “offline” work (practice, research, listening, watching) than others, but this will be mentioned up front in the class description. Other classes will be primarily about exposure and/or introduction to a specific topic - because sometimes there’s no better place to start your performing arts journey than in the company of other beginners.

I offer a variety of classes in the performing and musical arts. Those focused around the SINGING ACTOR will have components of the following:

- strengthening the vocal instrument through proper vocal technique: this means warm-ups!
- fixing specific vocal problems
- tips and tricks for achieving personal singing goals
- performance problems and how to address them
- artistic expression and character development
- song study and historical background
AND...
- standing out when you’re “standing solo”!

Classes in MUSIC APPRECIATION will help teach students:

- how to identify specific instruments in the orchestra (and the different voice categories/types)
- music terminology
- cultural context in which composers wrote their music, and why
- the chronological progression of musical styles
- critical music listening skills
- how to identify theme, musical motifs, etc.
- appreciation and exposure to a variety of different musical genres, allowing for greater cultural exposure

About me:

Mrs. Jessica Tomsic is a classically-trained soprano vocalist, having earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from West Virginia University. A versatile performer, Jessica has sung professionally in many genres of music, from classical to Christian contemporary, musical theater to gospel, across the United States and in different venues in Europe. Some of her most memorable gigs include performing during the holiday season at Disneyland and as a soprano soloist with the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir. Having recently added a new job to her resume - full-time homeschooling parent - Jessica has chosen to perform in and direct community theatre and serves on the Board of Directors. She especially enjoys learning new roles and developing new characters. In addition to performing and directing, Jessica created a vocal curriculum for private and group study and has maintained private students ages for 17 years. She loves teaching and helping students grow on their creative path!

Finally, some fun facts about me:
- I love to cook and bake... with lots of butter
- I love to read and adore libraries
- I enjoy learning about my family’s genealogy
- I know lots of lyrics to very random songs (think: Yacht Rock Radio)
- I love to travel and hope to own property in Italy someday (hey - we can wish, right?)
- I love labradors and hope to get another puppy soon!

See you in class!
