Class Experience

Does your student love to sing or play an instrument? This is their chance to get some performance experience and learn how to beat the jitters as they sing and play in a small group of peers. This class is for everyone who loves music, whether they love the spotlight or they have never performed for anybody except their family before. Performance experience helps young musicians to develop the confidence and experience necessary to continue their musical education.

In this class, the focus is all on the students. We will have a brief discussion on how to be a good performer and how to be a good audience member. We may also practice some techniques on how to perform with confidence.

Then each student will have a turn to perform on their instrument of choice for us. I ask that students be good listeners so they can be ready to give compliments and ask questions. It is so powerful for students to receive positive, uplifting feedback from their peers.

Each student should come to class prepared to sing or play one short song on their instrument of choice. It is not necessary to have an accompaniment if you are singing. However, you are welcome to have an accompaniment if you wish. Everyone will be expected to listen respectfully and give big applause after each performance.

I will also share performance tips as a professional musician. These tips may be given in areas such as rhythm, tempo, dynamics, pitch, body language, eye contact, breathing, tone, diction, or how to cope with stage fright.

If time allows, students may have the opportunity to perform another piece, or they may choose to perform their song again.

We may also have time for some games such as name that tune or musical call and response. Games can help students to relax and be ready to perform. They also enhance listening skills and promote positive social interaction.

This class may be taken again.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Liz and I love to teach! I got my first taste of the joy of teaching when I started tutoring fellow students in college.

My bachelor's degree is in music. I have been teaching and tutoring various subjects and ages for eight years. My experience as an online ESL teacher has helped me develop various teaching strategies specific to the online classroom. I also homeschool my own three children.

Through teaching I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I like to make classes fun and engaging for the students. I love seeing that "ah-ha!" moment when something clicks for them. I want all of my students to feel safe and loved.

On Outschool, I teach music, story time, reading, phonics, creative writing, word building, book clubs, and public speaking through a variety of topics.

If you have an idea or a request for a specific class, please feel free to contact me. I have experience with curriculum development and I am always open to creating new classes!
