Class Experience

This course is designed for imaginative preschoolers who love to sing and move. Many folk songs, rhymes and chants and seasonal tunes will be introduced as well as some classical selections and newer songs. Students will be encouraged to use their voices, bodies and homemade instruments to make music. Puppets will be used to engage and teach concepts.
Important concepts such as colors, shapes, letters, numbers, days of the week, months and seasons and patterns will be explored and related to through music as well as learning specific musical concepts such as beat vs rhythm, forte/piano, high/low.
Lots of individual attention will be given as students share their voices with others and have fun singing and moving together.
No experience is necessary and students may join at any time as concepts are continuously reviewed.
New learners can often be quiet as they adapt to a new environment and teacher and that is okay, they will still learn through watching and join in when they feel ready. Wiggling and restlessness is a-okay, too, we will move!
Class will meet once a week. Each class will begin with a hello song, then move to introduce a specific musical pattern or concept with a song, chant or finger play. Then a movement activity followed by the introduction of another musical concept that will be explored with a variety of songs and activities. Each class will end with a quiet song or lullaby followed by a goodbye song.

Learning Goals

Students will learn many concepts through songs and movement activities. Some of these concepts are: loud and quiet, high and low sounds, fast and slow, beat and rhythm as well as counting, shapes, colors, letters, days of the week and much more.

Supply List
Movement is encouraged so a bit of room to move is encouraged. A few homemade instruments/supplies would be very helpful to have on hand in a small basket including:
A drum of some sort (This can be as simple as an empty container or cereal box to pat)
A scarf or ribbon or strip of felt for movement to music
A shaker (beans or rice in a small container with a secure lid)
Rhythm sticks (two chopsticks or two spoons or two markers...anything that can be tapped together)

We may make our own bell instruments using pipecleaner and some loose bells (these can be found at any dollar store)
 1 file available upon enrollment
