Class Experience

Time to sing and dance to all of your favourite songs from Disney’s The Little Mermaid! Let’s explore life under the sea as we discuss Princess Ariel’s characteristics and learn what it takes to be a mermaid. Together we will start with a welcome chat to get to know a little bit about all of our new friends. We will transition into our opening sing-along song where I will guide us through an introductory mirror dance warmup. Next, we will discuss Ariel’s character qualities and learn about her dreams of being “part of [that] world”. We will have an interactive discussion about what it takes to be a mermaid and channel our best mermaid physicality. We will then transition into our own high energy The Little Mermaid sing-along. I will cue the song playlist where we will sing, dance, and play movement games all while maintaining an under the sea groove. Have a nice open space for twirling and swirling, and get ready to sing as loud as you can! Feel free to wear your best royal outfit, crown, or tiara. Anything goes in this mermaid sing-along adventure.

*Please note: A familiarity with the microphone button (mute + unmute) will be beneficial for this class as I allow our leaners opportunities to share and speak during interactive moments throughout class. However, learners will be kept on mute during music, dance, and choreography to eliminate the inevitable delay, echo, and feedback in everyones speakers.
*A kind reminder I do not dress up for these classes

Is this class right for my learner?
I like to set our learners up for success and know how frustrating it can be when class is different than expected.

Please read the below to help you choose if this class is right for you!
1- My learner does well in a quick paced, high energy environment
2- My learner is not expecting the teacher to be dressed in costume or as a character
3- My learner is excited by the idea of following dance moves and simple choreography
4- My learner understands the importance of the “mute” button on zoom specifically in music based classes. Each learner gets various opportunities to speak and share during class time however, I will keep you muted during music and dance to prevent feedback, echo, delay and background noise in everyone’s speakers. With music, there is an unavoidable delay from the source to your speakers.
5- My learner understands this is a class and not a social hour. There are various opportunities to share and speak throughout the lesson but I like to keep class moving, to keep learners invested, and to keep share times fair. I will do my best to stick around after class if you’d like to chat! If you need the washroom, no need to ask me, please go and come back quickly!
6- If my learner is out of the age range for this class they are absolutely understanding of all of the above
7- My learner is ready to have a blast while dancing and singing to some of their favourite songs from their favourite movie

Feeling nervous? Here are a few helpful tips!
Feeling nervous? Here are a few helpful tips!
1- Please follow the link below on how to prepare for your first Outschool class https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/802757-how-to-prepare-for-your-first-class
2- A familiarity with the mute/unmute feature on zoom will be helpful for this class
3- A familiarity with the “gallery” view setting on zoom will also be helpful for this class
4- Prior to class start time you will enter the zoom class waiting room by clicking the green button at the top of the classroom page, I will admit you into the class right at class start time. I cannot forward a link and code due to Outschool's safety policy and I can not check emails when in class. Please join wait room early especially if this is your first class.
5- When booking my classes, please take special note of the posted Time Zone. I am teaching from Toronto in Eastern Time.
6- If you need to transfer to a different class time, please let me know as soon as possible. I cannot guarantee that last minute transfers or transfer requests due to missed classes will be granted, especially if the class was sold out.
7- If you run into technical issues during class, I will not be able to check private messages or emails to help. Please contact support@outschool.com and they will do their best to help you or trouble shoot under zoom's settings.
8- As with most dance and music based classes, class is best appreciated at a volume where the learner can stand at a distance of at least a meter away from their device. An external speaker may be preferred to hear the music nice and loud depending on what device you are using for class and especially if siblings are taking class together on a shared device.
9- Upon admittance into the zoom class, it is helpful to rename your video to what your learner would like to be called. Please add the name of each enrolled sibling sharing a device when possible.

Please do not hesitate to reach out about further questions or concerns or to inquire if this class is right for you! I look forward to hearing from you.
Learning Goals
My goal for all beginner music arts classes is to encourage self-confidence in an inviting and high-energy space. Let’s have fun while trying something new as we dance and sing and talk about mermaids.
