Given the subject matter, it will be essential that students post pictures of their work so that I can evaluate their work closely and provide needed feedback.Class Experience
This class is designed for children who are interested in drawing people and animals realistically. Each week, a new portrait will be selected, after which students will be instructed how to sketch the portrait using measuring and basic shapes. In addition to learning how to do basic sketches, students will also be given an introduction to basic shading to make their subjects look three-dimensional. After class, students will be instructed to post pictures of their finished product to the class page so that I can evaluate their work up close and provide any necessary constructive critiques. Many of the subjects we pick will be human, but there will also be a variety of animals (I try to alternate them week by week). It is my belief that no portrait will ever be 100% perfect, but with practice, students will learn how to gradually improve their skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Liz Adkins and I have always loved art! For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing, painting, and creating collages. I have taken a few art classes, which involved learning how to sketch portraits for tourists in under ten minutes. I have also worked as an art teacher at a Summer camp, teaching classes to kids anywhere from 5 to 13 years old. I have recently started teaching art online, giving private lessons through Skype and Zoom. Throughout my life, I have completed commissioned sketches and paintings and have even completed a variety of murals.
In addition to art, I have always loved reading and writing, which inspired me to complete a degree in English, and later, a certificate in teaching English as a second language. I worked as an assistant to the English Department at my school, and I have assisted a variety of students with writing papers and other grammar-related assignments.
I believe art, in either visual or linguistic form, should tell a story. It helps us to express ourselves and it also helps us to understand others. I would love to share my story with you.
I hope to see you in class!
