Identify significant figures 5. Perform simple calculations using significant figures 6. Perform unit conversions using Dimensional Analysis
I have a bachelor’s degree in Science in Education with an emphasis in Chemistry. I have a year of experience in teaching science in a virtual environment both synchronous and asynchronous classes. I have 5+ years of experience learning the topics taught in this class as they apply to every science class.
Learners will be assigned a worksheet each week. Each worksheet is due at the end of the day on Friday. All worksheets are due at the end of the day on the final Friday of this class.

Each worksheet will be used to assess the quality of learning being delivered by each video lesson and measure learner engagement with each lesson. This is a pass/fail class. Each worksheet will be "graded" upon completion and individualized feedback will be provided. Corrected worksheets will be collected on an as-needed basis. Learners are expected to turn in 4 completed worksheets in order to pass this class and receive a completion certificate.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will be expected to use the direct message function in the Outschool classroom to turn in their worksheets. Instructions on how to turn in and complete worksheets will be provided in the Welcome post. Third-Party Activity: This class features a simulated lab that serves as the assessment for both Week 1 and Week 2. This simulation is provided by the 3M Young Scientists Lab and is completely safe for learners to use. 3M is a company that makes a variety of household products and they partnered with Discovery Education to provide a few interactive simulations for teachers to use in their classrooms. The simulation does not require an account and the URL has a little secure connection lock next to it when opened. The purpose of this simulation is to provide learners with the opportunity to practice using the Scientific Method, designing and performing their own experiment within certain parameters, and writing a lab report. LEARNERS UNDER THE AGE OF 13: If your learner is under the age of 13 and in accordance with Outschool's Safety Policy, please provide your explicit permission for your learner to access and use the simulation described above. A link to the simulation can be provided upon request.
