Description
Class Experience
We are making four recipes, two main dishes a bread and a dessert. The goal is to teach essential culinary skills while making enjoyable and healthy foods. Being able to cook well at a young age leads to healthy living and good self esteem. A great goal of this class is to make cooking fun!
I started my career working for the Light company. It was my job to write recipes and give demonstrations on food preparation and how to use Microwave ovens and electric appliances. After that I spent several years teaching toddler cooking. To round out my career, I have taught all ages including middle school and high school in public schools. I have a degree in Home Economics Education and French from Iowa State University and a Master's degree in Education from Central Connecticut State University.
They will be given a recipe each week along with a utensil list. It is important for them to get ingredients and utensils out before class starts so that we class goes smoothly.
Recipes, grocery lists and utensils needed will be provided each week .
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Hopefully they will prepare food that their families will eat. I will be able to make a visual inspection, but the families will be the ultimate judge of their successes by tasting the foods they eat.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
They will be using the stoves, oven and knives. It is very appropriate to have parent supervision in these classes to make sure there are no accidents in the kitchen. I will go over the basics of safety. There are also potential allergens such as wheat, dairy, eggs, nuts and soy. Most of these can be switched out if the teacher is informed.
All recipes will be posted before class
