Class Experience

Students will learn about algebraic expressions. They will learn about identifying like terms and combining like terms. Students will use the commutative and associative properties as well to simplify expressions. If time allows, we will also touch upon the distributive property.

Using a presentation, I will quickly review basic vocabulary involving algebraic expressions. We will continue to talk about how to identify like terms and then how to combine them to simplify expressions. We will go over examples as a group, then we will go over examples with help from the class, and finally, students will practice some problems on their own. If time permits, once students have shown that they can successfully combine like terms using basic properties of addition and multiplication, we will investigate the distributive property.

Students should have completed their 5th-grade year at the least, but older students are welcome for a refresher or additional practice.

Students are recommended to my course, as a prequel to this one, or have background knowledge of the parts of an algebraic expression: https://outschool.com/classes/identifying-parts-of-an-algebraic-expression-7O5jInm5?sectionUid=39ad5891-1927-4b6a-9f99-85f9baa9799d&usid=9NbNpeO4&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

MY CLASSES
I have previously offered ongoing math classes for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, along with specialty math classes, math camps, and unique "field trip" math classes. Additionally, I have hosted a game club featuring the popular game Among Us.

I am excited to create various self-paced math classes for students of all ages.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I taught sixth-grade math for 15 years and hold a certification to teach grades six through twelve. I have experience teaching students from Kindergarten to eighth grade in STEM camps. Additionally, I have advised middle school math teams, introducing higher-level math topics, and have participated in extended school year programs for students with moderate to severe special needs. My diverse experience with different levels and types of learners makes my classes an excellent choice for you and your child!

I left the traditional classroom in 2022 and currently work for two STEM education startups—one in robotics education and the other in STEM education outreach.

EDUCATIONAL VALUES AND PHILOSOPHY
I believe in engaging students by meeting them at their level and making learning enjoyable. Creating an environment where students feel safe to ask questions and learn from their mistakes is essential for their progress.

ABOUT THE REAL ME
I have traveled to Central America, Europe, and Africa, and I'm eager to explore more continents and countries (like Greece). Despite my fear of heights, I have tried parasailing, ziplining, and skydiving! My mom's side of the family lives in Hawaii, and I can share some insights about what it's like there if you ask!

💸 REFUND POLICY
My classes follow the 'Limited' refund policy model:
- Full refund until a week in advance or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts).
- No refunds for student no-shows or absences.
- No refunds for technical issues on the student's end.
