Class Experience

In this class, you will learn to make a delicious, SIMPLE berry crisp(from a secret family recipe) for your family and friends! A recipe will be provided. This will be a hands on class that will take place in the kitchen and parental supervision may be necessary as the use of an oven will be required. We will discuss good hygiene practises, safe use of an oven and various kitchen utensils, and how to have fun in the kitchen! Students will also learn how to read a recipe(a classic example of procedural writing!) and proceed through a multi-step process to reach a desired end. When class is finished, enjoy the delicious smell of a baking delicacy! This is a treat that the whole family can enjoy!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello. My name is Connie Freeman. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from St Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. I have been teaching for 10 years, and love to spend the day surrounded by my students. I believe that learning happens most easily when children are engaged, and having fun, and I like to fill my lessons with interactive games, singing, talking, and laughing. My educational philosophy is based on the importance of balance and the placement of the learner in the centre of their own educational journey. I believe that we are all stewards of the earth and that our value lies in joining together to become something bigger than ourselves. When I am not teaching, I spend my time hiking, snowshoeing, and travelling with my husband, 2 children, and my big dog, Bear! I hope to have the opportunity to see your child in my classroom soon!!
