Practice the skills you learn as much as possible!Assessment
Questions for assessment at the end of class will include: • Why it is important to listen with your whole body? • What are things you can do to be a better listener? • What does it look like when someone is listening to you?Class Experience
Would you like to improve your listening skills and become a super listener? In this one-time class, learners will identify good and bad listening skills with the help of visual aids. Then, we will create a full body self-portrait and discuss how we can listen with our eyes, hands, heart...not just our ears! Finally, students will play two fun listening games to practice their new super listening skills. We will play a classic game of Simon Says as well as MSKY News - where your learner will have the chance to become a reporter and interview a new friend.
Learning Goals
• Students will learn that listening enables you to better understand meaning.
• Students will understand that listening is different from hearing.
• Students will understand that listening requires mental concentration.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello families! My name is Kiara Banks, but please call me Ms. Kay! I teach life skills courses to young learners, helping them communicate, set goals and make good decisions. As the teacher, I present scenarios that assist children in making good choices. Art activities incorporated with open dialogue make for stimulating class involvement. I believe that it is vitally important to develop positive socio-emotional skills to experience real success in life. Additionally, I wish to support families experiencing learning loss by offering reasonably priced private tutoring sessions.
I have over 20 years of experience as a volunteer teacher at a local community center, instructing students as young as 4-years-old. I also teach English language learners online, utilizing my TESOL certification. I have a certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education, as well as a Professional Tutor Certification. Most importantly, I am a homeschool teacher to my 4th-grade son. I love to learn and am constantly working to improve my skills as a teacher!
I enjoy many types of arts and crafts activities. As a fun fact, my favorite dessert is cake! I taught cake decorating lessons at a local craft store and sold decorated cakes for several years. Some of my wedding cakes even won awards!
