In this one-time class, students will read funny limericks by famous poets. We’ll cover the 5-Rules to limerick writing & scheme. We’ll collaborate on a limerick together using a word bank. Then, students will write their own!
Class experience
Creating limericks is an excellent outlet for writers when it comes to creative expression, but it can be a little trickier than most people think. Writing limericks is all about manipulating oral language in a fun, silly way while maintaining a specified structure. In this class, students will take turns reading famous limericks by historical and modern poets, like Shel Silverstein, Ogden Nash & Lewis Carroll. Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to: Identify a limerick Outline key elements of limericks (including structure and rhyme scheme). Write their own clever/funny limerick.

1 file available upon enrollmentPlease bring paper, pencils and erasers. A graphic organizer & word bank will be provided (PDF) to print out, but this isn’t necessary. On-screen prompts will be provided.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
3rd party apps are not required. However, there will be a PDF script (generated by Google Drive) available to print upon enrollment. You will not need an extra login to access it. No screen sharing will occur through the Zoom function. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
