In this one-time class, students will learn to sign the alphabet! Knowledge of the manual alphabet is a foundational skill in learning sign language because it allows us to fingerspell any word that we may not know the sign for. Knowing the ABCs in any language is the first step, so let's start together! We will begin by going through the alphabet as a class, learning how to produce each letter. Then, everyone will get a chance to fingerspell their name before we start a game of categories! Can you guess what your classmates are fingerspelling? I hope you come and find out!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the alphabet in sign language and the first steps in the skill of fingerspelling. Students leave my class fingerspelling their names and sometimes even full sentences!
