This class will practice spelling words from the Fry's First 100 Words. Words such as "that", "his", and "said". These are high frequency words that will increase literacy by knowing them with automatic recognition. Here is a complete list of the Fry's First 100 words: http://www.uniqueteachingresources.com/support-files/fryfirst100set.pdf Students should already be comfortable recognizing the letters in uppercase and lowercase forms, as well as making their basic sounds (for example,...
Primary Common Core Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.C Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does). Additional Common Core Standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.1.B Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.1.D Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.2.C Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.A Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.B Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
I have a Master's Degree in Education and have taught literacy in classrooms for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade.
No homework is required. However, if the students continue practicing the words using the skills from class, they will master these sight words!
Bring your own toy car to show us! Pencil and paper are not necessary for this class. They can be used during class to practice additional writing of the words if the individual wants to do that.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Make learning fun!
