US Grade Kindergarten
This small group class is designed for learners that are showing an interest in reading. In this ongoing class, students will learn kindergarten sight words! Why are sight words important? Sight words or high-frequency words (HFW) are words that are commonly found in beginning literacy materials. There are different sight words for each grade level and these words build upon each other as they are mastered. Many of these words do not follow the rules of the English language. This means that your child will not be able to sound out these words phonetically. Sight word practice allows students to master these words which gives them greater confidence when tackling early reading materials. Once students learn to quickly recognize these words, reading comes more easily. Sight words can be learned in random order which means that you can join this class at any point. The structure of each class will be as follows: Welcome/Introductions A quick review of any previously learned sight words Say it Sing it Tap it Clap it Air write it Write it Games I hope to see you in class soon! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Jamie! I am a work-at-home mom of 2 little princesses! I graduated from Lock Haven University in 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Math for Middle school!
I have always worked with children! While earning my degree I worked in a daycare center. Once graduated I worked in public school! I taugh grades 1 and 2 for a few years and loved it! I later found myself teaching reading for grades k-3 as an intervention teacher; this spoke to my heart!
After having my daughter in 2014 I decided to stay at home and be a full time mom! 2 years ago I started working from home as a 1-on-1 ELS teacher! I love teaching interactive based classes that keep children engaged and active. These are things I will focus my classes around. I hope your child enjoys them as much as I enjoy teaching them!
Fun Fact - We recently went from a single dog home of a 13 year old Boxer/Collie mix to also having 2 kittens and an English Mastiff puppy!
