Description
Class Experience
Many sight words do not follow basic phonics principles so they are not easy to decode or sound out. It is my goal to help your young learner memorize these words to increase their sight word bank so they will have increased reading fluency and comprehension.
The teacher was a kindergarten, first, and second-grade teacher for over twenty years in public elementary schools. Both of her boys knew how to read before they entered kindergarten partially because she found opportunities to teach using everyday objects like “sticks and nickels”, shaving cream, and sugar on cookie sheets.
Day 1-Playdough and toothpicks Day 2-Shaving cream or whipped cream. Day 3-Craft sticks and nickels or pennies (substitute crayons or Q-tips for craft sticks) Day 4-Cookie sheet filled with a light layer of sugar or salt Day 5- Several pieces of paper and crayons or markers Day 6-No supplies needed
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
