Class Experience
Sight Words are any words that a reader can identify with automaticity. Our English language is coded with so many different letter sounds and combinations. Research is now showing that Sight Words cannot just be taught with rote memorization, but taught with the skills and strategies to understand the "code" in each word. In this On-Going class, learners will learn skills to decode sight words. YES! Even sight words have a phonetic code! Learners will practice their phonemic awareness, by...
Learners will acquire new sight words with each lesson to build their reading and writing skills. The more fluent leaners are in their sight word acquisition, the more fluent and independent they are able to read.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be assessed with the sight words they have learned from each lesson at the end of class using a formative "game" to check for understanding of sight words learned during lesson. Learners will also be asked comprehension questions throughout the lesson to check for understanding. Teacher will monitor each learner's participation using their Nearpod lesson.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In this course, learners will use the application Nearpod or the website nearpod.com to participate with each class's lesson.
