Class Experience

***This course is a flex course. It does not have live meetings. Instead, it relies on videos and posts in the Outschool classroom as the basis of student-teacher interaction.***

This course serves as an introduction to two and three letter sight words for the budding reader. Throughout the four week course, learners will be introduced to and practice identifying, reading, and writing 16 new sight words from the Kindergarten Dolch Sight Word list.
**Video 1- This video will introduce two (2 letter) sight words for the week. Learners will participate in a movement activity to practice spelling our two new words. After we have practiced spelling the words out loud, we will work on writing them.

**Video 2- This video will introduce two (3 letter) sight words for the week. It will have follow the same format as video one. A worksheet will be provided in the classroom for students to use (while watching videos one and two) to practice tracing and writing the sight words on their own. Please post a picture of the completed worksheet to the classroom so that I can track your learners progress and give feedback.

**Video 3- This video will lead learners in a guided review of the four new sight words that were introduced in videos one and two. A worksheet will be provided in the classroom for learners to use as we go through our guided review together.

***Video 4- Weekly Challenge: Let's Read to Each Other!
Video 4 will introduce our book of the week. Each book we make during this four week course will use a simple sentence frame highlighting one of our sight words of the week. The goal of completing our weekly book challenge is to get our budding readers reading! Using a simple, repetitive sentence frame with familiar words and picture cues will help build reading confidence. In Video 4 I will read the book aloud and we will work together to identify sight words on each page. After watching the video, learners should color the pictures on each page and then practice reading their book to friends and family! As part of the weekly Let's Read Challenge learners are asked to take an audio or video recording of themselves reading the story and post it to the classroom as a way for us to read to each other.

**Video 5-This video will provide directions for completing a culminating activity for the week. The activities will vary from week to week but may include things such as rainbow writing, sight word search and find, or roll and cover.

Game Time!! (for additional practice):
At the end of each week a link to an interactive Kahoot game will be posted. While playing this game learners will practice listening to and identifying the correct spelling of our four new sight words. As the weeks go on there will be options to play a Kahoot review game that focuses on the four target words of the week as well as a separate Kahoot game that is cumulative and includes all the words that learners have practiced at any particular point in the course. (For example in week 2 there will be one Kahoot game available to practice the four words introduced in week 2 as well as a Kahoot game to practice the words from week one and the words from week 2). ***When your learner logs into the game, please use their first name as an identifier so that I can follow their progress***

Hello Outschool parents and learners! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to teach and connect with you all here on Outschool.

I have been teaching for 14 years. My teaching experience is wide ranging. While working on my degree, I substitute taught at the elementary level. After completing my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education I began teaching World History to 10th grade students in a large public school in South Florida. I taught World History for three years and absolutely loved every minute of it! At the end of my third year of teaching my husband's job transferred him to Virginia where I found a job as a lead teacher in a preschool over the summer. I thought teaching preschool was just going to be a summer job, but it turned out that I fell in love with the littles in my classroom and kept my preschool teaching job for three years!

After having my daughter I made the switch to teaching exclusively online.
I love the flexibility of teaching with Outschool as well as being able to connect with learners from around the world!

Teaching is my passion, no matter the platform being used to reach students. There is nothing quite like seeing learning "click" for a student and watching them begin to excel on their own. My favorite topics to teach are history as well as early literacy, reading, and writing. I'm an avid reader myself and it brings me great joy to see my students get as excited about reading as I am.

I'm looking forward to meeting and learning with you! I hope to see you in the classroom soon!
