Playing sight word bingo is a great way to help a child build their sight word vocabulary. During a brief review of words from the Kindergarten Dolch Sight Word list, learners will hear the teacher say the word and use it in a sentence. We will spell the words together and if students feel comfortable, they will also have the opportunity to use the sight words in sentences. Students will also practice spelling and recognizing these sight words by participating in 1 game of bingo (2 games if time permits). Early readers benefit from lots of practice and playing sight word bingo helps with recognition of these important words. This interactive game provides children the opportunity to be active learners, while practicing new skills. Prior to class, I will send each student their unique LOL Surprise bingo cards. These should be printed out and brought to class. We will spend ten minutes practicing the words. Then we will play 1-2 rounds of LOL Surprise Sight Word Bingo! The teacher will call out a sight word and the students will check to see if the word they hear is on their bingo card. If the word is on their card they will cover that space on their board. Please bring something to class to cover the spaces on your bingo boards. You can use small coins, checkers, small pieces of cereal, paper clips, ect. You can also use a marker to cross of the space. We will celebrate each other as learners fill their bingo cards. It is a party, so remember to bring your favorite LOL doll to class.
