Class Experience

We will focus on 2-4 different sight words during each session. Learners will be expected to write (or build) each sight word at least 3 different ways.

The topics that will be covered in this class include practicing spelling of basic Kindergarten and/or First Grade commonly used sight words and the use of the sight words in sentences. The sentences will be practice orally.

The class will be structured by introducing 1 new word at a time with a goal of mastering 2-4 new sight words with each class. After the first class the words previously learned will be used in a review during each additional class to continue practice of learned words.

We will practice spelling and writing the sight words as well as practicing using the sight words in sentences orally.

My teaching style is relaxed, but with high expectations of respect and participation from all learners. We will review Zoom expectations during our first class together.

Learners will interact with a multisensory learning approach and be expected to build or write each new word at least 3 ways to help them reach mastery of understanding the spelling of each learned word and practice giving an example of the words being used in a sentence.

Students are required to know the names and sounds of the letters in the alphabet prior to participating in this class.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to spell and write the different sight words and be able to use them correctly in a sentence orally. Ideally, students will be able to write a sentence using the sight words as well with their best spelling effort of the other words used in the sentence. We will practice and I will model correct sentence structure but will not expect all learners at this level to be able to write a sentence independently.
