A VIRTUAL “SHOW AND TELL.” A great opportunity to socialize. Practice taking turns and learn classroom etiquette. Students will introduce themselves, give a short presentation on their special something (a toy, a sibling, a picture, a pet), and practice taking turns to speak. Students will also be asked a few simple questions to practice being called on in class and speaking in front of their peers. Questions will be simple, for example, "what is your favorite color?" Made for the little learners! This class is low pressure and designed to get little ones comfortable in an online setting. Teacher expertise and credentials
I am brick and mortar teacher gone rogue. I have been teaching for 12 years (8 years in a brick-and-mortar classroom setting and 4 years online). My passion is teaching English, from beginner reader to college level. I also enjoy teaching math for grades K-8. I have an M.Ed. in Education, specializing in reading and literacy. I also have my B.A. in English with a minor in political science and government. I am trained in curriculum development and Growth Mindset. I am also TESOL certified and have 5 years of SPED classroom experience.
I think it’s important to reach each student in my classroom, that’s why mixed media representation is highly incorporated in my teaching style. Students are engaged with a multi-sensory learning approach in my classroom. No matter how your student learns, I engage the visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic learner. I like to teach students by learning where they are - it makes them feel successful and confident! I meet them where they are academically and then bring their education and academics to an elevated level. I believe that abilities and prior knowledge play a big role in teaching, which means parent-teacher communication is a tool I use quite often. In fact, studies show that these things matter in a classroom and affect cognitive function and academic success.
Bottom line: I love to learn and I love to teach! It's like breathing for me!
I hope to see you in class!
