In this multi-day course, students will participate in hands-on activities to practice short vowel sounds. Through reading and spelling, students will be able to read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.

During this course, students will master the short vowel sounds, a, e, i, o, and u. Each day will focus on a new short vowel sound. 1. Class will begin with hellos and optional sharing of something good! 2. We will then review the consonant sounds. The teacher will introduce the day’s target vowel sound. 3. By the course, students will be able to decode and read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words such as man, fig, nut, pod, or bed.
For several years, Miss Raz was a reading specialist at a Title 1 public school. As a Title 1 reading specialist, Miss Raz used Orton-Gillingham techniques to teach students who were reading below grade level. Miss Raz believes in a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to teaching phonics.
Independent reading activities will be posted in the classroom after each class.
