In this class, students will learn the sounds for each short vowel. Each vowel will have a hand signal, letter chant, blending word opportunity, and phonics fluency reading sentence. A resource worksheet for printing is available.
Class experience
Students will be learning the 5 short vowel sounds for a, e, i, o, and u. In our time together, we will introduce each short vowel. We will learn a hand signal to help us remember the vowel's name, a chant for each letter to help remember the vowel's sound, practice blending words that contain the vowel sound together as a class and independently, and then use those blended words in a phonics fluency sentence for reading. Students will be able to identify the 5 short vowels by their letter name and letter sound. Students will also be able to participate in blending words containing the short vowels and reading a fluency sentence containing the short vowels and blended words.
I have 10 years of teaching experience. My teaching time in Kindergarten and First Grade, 8 years of experience, have shown me fun and interactive strategies to reinforce the learning process of reading. I am hoping that these strategies will be able to reach your child on a new level of understanding during our lesson.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
