Class Experience

Students will enjoy speed racing challenges using math concepts, competition, and fun. But first, they must learn the basics that are structured in an engaging way to ensure no student is left behind. Regardless of the learning level, each student will enjoy this math camp mixed with so many exciting things to do.

Students will be taught:
how to add, subject and multiply to determine the cost of foods
how to determine the cost of sale items and coupons
how to determine the cost of brand named products
how to determine the cost of generic products
how to use a grocery store circular and shop for the best prices

We will discuss topics as it relates to products found on the grocery store aisles. Topics will include:
Healthy Produce - Fruits and Vegetables
Baking Goods - Bread, Cake and Recipes
Breakfast & Dairy Products - Cereal, Cheese, Milk, Yogurt, Eggs
Frozen Foods - Ice Cream and Prepackaged Meals

Students will learn life skills, safe shopping habits, and how to analyze the best deals through grocery store circulars.

The math camp consists of group sessions that cover general math concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students will practice foundational concepts and build upon them each day. Parents are welcome to provide challenges a student may have based on the concepts mentioned above. Students on various levels join in as one to help peers, learn new concepts, and reinforce previously learned concepts.

In the event your student struggles in a specific area, private one-on-one lessons are available upon request to ensure each student reaches the most benefit possible.

Class will be taught using a Powerpoint presentation on the lesson for the day. Class will begin with various icebreakers each day including grocery store aerobics and short video clips with questions to be answered as a group. Students will be given online grocery store circulars to use to answer questions during class. Students will be provided with worksheets and math drills to practice with at home as desired. Students will participate in fun shopping challenges to include scavanger hunts and races to see who can find grocery store items on the web through google searches as informaton and clues are given to them verbally.

Class is structured for single learners and small groups to enjoy using real life applications with math. Students will work individually and paired with another student based on learning levels to solve engaging math problems. Group games will be played as ice breakers to encourage communication and determine personalities for effective pairing of students.

My teaching style includes fun and engaging interactions among myself and the students. I adapt to each child's learning level and personality by showing patience and using encouraging words throughout the class. My teaching style creates a comfortable setting for all learners.

Our session includes video clips to make students laugh and feel excited about learning, followed by vibrant powerpoint slides to present content. Students will work on worksheets, answer questions out loud and continue to communicate with the teacher throughout the class.
