Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Come enjoy a delightful and unique opportunity to become familiar with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most well-known character, super sleuth and analytical genius Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes has influenced countless stories and characters since his debut in 1887 and is arguably the most recognizable character in any era and across any generation. I invite you to join us as we brave the dangers of a moor deep in the English countryside in possibly the most famous Sherlock Holmes mystery: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The Hound of the Baskervilles was originally published in installments in The Strand Magazine in 1901-1902 and was released in book form in 1902. The eerie tale of the unearthly hound was derived from a local legend of a pack of black hounds that allegedly ran howling across Dartmoor toward the tomb of Squire Richard Cabell, an avid and evil hunter who was rumored to have sold his soul to the devil, the night he was buried. Cabell's coffin was entombed in a small building so as to stop him from joining his hounds and riding out to the hunt again. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle likely heard this and other legends while staying at the Duchy Hotel in Princetown, now the High Moorland Visitor Centre, and was inspired to pen this mystery.

Come join us, along with Dr. John H. Watson himself, as we slip back in time to a dark, stormy, and sinister moor and the mystery and murder that awaits there. See you soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone!

My name is Charlotte Klein and I'm so excited to teach your learners! My teaching partner on my shoulder is Rue, my sun conure parrot. She will be joining us for all of my lessons and makes a great co-teacher!

I graduated in 2015 from Brigham Young University - Idaho with my Bachelor of Music Education: Choral Emphasis and have been teaching since. I have over 5 years experience in the public and charter school classroom as a choir, guitar, and general music teacher all the way from kindergarten to high school. I have been trained in opera and vocal jazz, play guitar, have experience in percussion, and fake the piano really well. I've also been a bus driver, a truck driver, have worked at a plant nursery, am fluent in Spanish, and am an amateur Astronomy enthusiast. On the side, I am also an avid literature lover and took a variety of advanced English courses while in school, including Shakespeare and AP English.

I look forward to offering a variety of music classes, some book clubs, as well as a bird club for current or prospective bird owners who would love to learn more! In my music classroom we will be exploring all sorts of musical elements such as rhythms, how to read music, music history, composers, etc. I believe music through movement is powerful and I incorporate movement in to every lesson as well as cross-curricular activities to help support reading and math.

I am so excited to get to personally know your learners and look forward to our adventures together!

Class Procedures / Policies:

1. Unless specifically required by the class type, I will happily hold class for one student. I know some of my favorite experiences as a student were when I could have my teacher's undivided attention and I will never deny an enthusiastic student!

2. I will admit students in to the classroom right at the scheduled time and for up to 5 minutes after. In the event that no student is present when class begins, I will wait ten minutes before exiting and closing the class.

3. Disclaimer: Class sizes and student participation can sometimes cause class to run a little short or long, but I will always do my best to end class at the designated time.

4. I come from a family of 5 and I know that a little can add up to a lot quickly with multiple children. If you would like to enroll multiple siblings in the same class (at the same time), it will be full price for the first and a 20% discount for each subsequent sibling. (Please note they must be in the same class & section for the discount to apply.) Simply sign up your children for class(es) as usual, send me a message, and I will process a 20% refund on their enrollment afterwards. You will receive a refund email to show the refund has been processed.
