Students will be presenting on their animal in class; assessment will be informal and will be centered around the group discussion.Class Experience
Join us as we learn about all different kinds of pets, from furry pets, to reptiles, and everything in between! Your child will have the opportunity to share their favorite pets with the class! I will also include some of my own pets in this social activity:) Which ones? You'll have to come and find out! This class is interactive, and every learner will be given the chance to share and answer questions from other learners about their animal. Sharing about a pet can be a fun way for your child to practice speaking in a group dynamic, while building confidence in their public speaking skills at the same time. Prior to attending, learners should research some facts about their animal so that they have something to talk about. For example: What is your pet's name? Is your pet a male or female? What species or breed is it? What does it eat? What is your favorite thing about it? What do you want to tell people about your pet that you haven't already mentioned? The purpose of this research is to give your child the opportunity to learn as much as they can about their pet so that they can answer the questions others may have. If a question is asked and the answer is not known, I will provide the answer as part of the discussion. This class is meant to be fun and worry free! At the end of the class, learners will have been introduced to several types of animals, and will walk away with new knowledge to share about the many interesting pets they were introduced to. My own family's pets consists of several Ball Pythons, a Leopard Boa, a Crested Gecko, a horse, four rats, three cats and two dogs! Living in the country, it wont be long before we have our own petting zoo, I'm sure!
Learning Goals
Speaking in a group can be intimidating for some of our learners, both young and old. However, when the discussion is on a topic that is near and dear to their hearts, like a beloved pet, nerves fall to the side, and wonderful conversations can be had!
Your child will be able to practice their research skills before class, and verbally share their knowledge with the rest of us, giving them the opportunity to become more comfortable with public speaking. They may even learn something they didn't already know about their pet!
I am so excited to teach your child all about my wacky and wonderful pets, and to learn about theirs too!

Supply List
The following questions are simply suggestions to guide your child's research online: What is your pet's name? Is your pet a male or female? What species or breed (if applicable) is it? Where did it originally come from (imported, locally bred, etc...)? What does it eat? How do you care for it? What is your favorite thing about it? What are some pros and cons about owning this type of pet? What do you want to tell people about your pet that you haven't already mentioned? Your child can include other interesting facts as well! If they cannot find the answers to some of the questions, don't worry! This is meant to be a fun, interactive class, with no pressure. The research simply gives the participants something to talk about, as well as extra knowledge to answer questions other learners may have about your child's pet.

Do you have an animal lover in your life? Or perhaps a future zoologist, veterinarian, or conservation minded young learner? Then you've come to the right spot!
My name is Marie, and as an Animal Science teacher, I would love to teach your child all about the amazing animals in this world!
I have taught over 20,000 students on Outschool, and I have 18 years of experience teaching at all levels.
I believe in eliciting as much student output as possible. Learners are encouraged to ask questions (and to share knowledge on each topic) as we learn together.
When I am not playing an instrument, I enjoy watching every nature show in existence alongside my children, learning as much as I can about the weird animals in the world so that I can bring it to the classroom and share it with your child!
I look forward to meeting your learner in class!
Ms. Marie
