Do you love to read? Me too! Let's share the current book your reading! In this on-going class, you'll bring your current book and practice your public speaking skills to share with your new friends. I'll demonstrate the proper way to share your book, while learners practice active listening and asking good questions. Then each learner will have their turn to share. We'll practice public speaking, active listening and asking good questions. After the class you'll get a list of all the books discussed in class, so you can check them out ASAP!

***It is against Outschool policy (and laws) to read the books in class. Students should share details about the book, but are not allowed to read their book in class. We do not have permission from each individual author to actually read the book in class and we don’t have time for each person to read their book. Each student will have 5-7 mins to share their book and answer questions from their friends. This class is focused on being able to share details about their book in front of others and answer questions from their peers. Thank you for understanding!!

Class Flow:
1. Welcome + Introductions
2. Presentation on how to share your book
3. Learner book share
4. Teacher Affirmations + Additional Student Questions
5. Goodbyes

Each class will focus on proper public speaking skills, active listening skills and asking good questions, but the topics will be student-led based on the books they share. Learners can join any class, as subject does not build upon the previous class. A short review of public speaking and listening skills and asking good questions, will begin each class. Learners should have read their book prior to class so that they are able to share with the class. All reading levels are celebrated and encouraged, so don't hesitate to join in! Small class sizes to ensure everyone gets to share and feel comfortable!

Come enjoy a positive and encouraging reading environment and learn about lots of great books!
Learning Goals
Learners will practice public speaking skills, active listening skills, asking good questions, and learn about lots of new books. They'll get to see first hand how to talk in front of a small group, how to share about something they love, great ways to actively listen to their friends and some good questions to ask to learn more and be an attentive learner.

Hello! My name is Lindsay Ernst and I love teaching! I'm a wife and mother of 3, former Kindergarten teacher, homeschooling mom, private tutor and former professional photographer. I absolutely love working with children. Teaching is my first love and watching children's eyes light up when they learn new things and excel, brings me great joy!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. Trained in Orton-Gillingham and Speech to Print Linguistic Phonics. For the last 20 years, I have enjoyed teaching children Pre-K to 8th grade in the classroom, at home and as an online tutor. I was also a self taught photographer, running my own business for 14 years.

I am well versed in many homeschool curriculums and provide tutoring in many of them: Saxon, IEW, All about Reading/All About Spelling, Teach your Child to Read in 100 Days, The Good and the Beautiful, First Language Lessons, Writing with Ease, Story of the World, Hewlett Lightning Lit & Composition, Apologia. I'd be thrilled to support your homeschooling journey!

I specifically use UFLI and S.P.I.R.E. explicit phonics and Reading Simplified speech to print for learners needing reading interventions. I love filling in the gaps and getting children back on track!

Classes are very inclusive to neurodiverse learners. I, myself, am neurodiverse with ADHD and anxiety, and I work hard to be inclusive to the diverse needs of my students. This has allowed me to really connect to many children who may not feel seen or understood. Most of my students are neurodiverse and it's been a joy to encourage and help them reach their goals.

My goal as a teacher, is to instill a love of learning in all the children I meet. My classes are fun, interactive and varied! I hope the children learn many new things and walk away ready to take on the world!

In my free time, I love reading, running, paddle boarding, and most importantly, spending time with my family.

I can't wait to meet your learner in class!
