This course is a study of 2 of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies: Othello and King Lear. Each play will be listened to in class followed by teacher directed but student led discussion. In order to truly appreciate the genius of Shakespeare, it is crucial to understand the language of his time; therefore, we will study the meanings of Shakespeare's words and any cultural or time period significance. Shakespeare's plays contain some of the most beautiful quotations in all of literature, and this class will give students the opportunity to memorize select quotations and feast upon the magnificence of Shakespeare. I am extremely passionate about helping students understand Shakespeare and see the world through his plays.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of Shakespeare's use of words, literary elements, and storytelling.By the end of this class, students will have read and analyzed 2 of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies.Syllabus
