US Grade 9 - 12
The class will be a combination of slides, activities, and videos. The content will go from the general to the specific in Shakespeare's histories- from the general idea behind what a history play is to the plots and themes of individual plays. The course will culminate in a board game that allows the student to apply their knowledge of the characters, plots and themes of the history plays. Each class will consist of: 1. Weekly Discussion Questions 2. Scene Analysis from a play or film version of Shakespeare 3. Immersive activities such as: - My online Shakespeare board game. - Virtual tours of the Tower Of London, 4. Weekly Web Quests
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with the characters, plots, and themes of Shakespeare's history plays, specifically the ones that covered the Wars of the Roses period. We will also discuss the pros and cons of monarchy as typified by how well they respond to various historical crises. Finally, the class will cover how the history plays parallel contemporary issues of leadership, the dangers of tyranny, and the powers of persuasive speech.

In 2007 I was a national finalist for the Kennedy Center Award for my work as a text coach on "Romeo and Juliet." In addition, I have acted in the Shakespeare history play "Henry VIII" among many others.
