- In this class, students will learn about a typical Shakespearean sonnet by analyzing rhyme scheme, iambic pentameter, quatrains, and couplets using Sonnet 130 as a guide. Metaphors, similes, and imagery may also be covered. - Using a slideshow presentation, we will use teacher-prompted questions, student-led discussion, annotation, and visual aids to discuss and learn the poetic elements found in this sonnet. - Learners will need to have some exposure to Shakespeare and poetry before, but...
Students will be able to explain the specific structure of a Shakespearean sonnet, pinpoint figurative language such as metaphors, and find meaning in the text of the sonnet.
Graduating with an English Teaching degree from Brigham Young University, I have studied and taught Shakespearean sonnets and plays various times throughout my teaching career.
