Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 11
In this course, students will read William Shakespeare's Sonnet 29 in class. We will hear it as it is meant to be read and then we will dive into the different poetic elements of sonnets and, in particular, Shakespearean sonnets. A sonnet is a fourteen-line poem, traditionally written in iambic pentameter, that uses one of several rhyme schemes, and a structured organization that depicts a particularly strong feeling or big idea. Students will be given a link to a Google Document to analyze the poem and to annotate the elements within it through a walk-through activity with the teacher!

Topics of Discussion:
     - Sonnet Definition and Elements
     - Poetic Elements within Sonnet 29
     - Themes
     - Rhyme Scheme
     - Iambic Pentameter
     - Couplets
     - And More!

Other Details

Supply List
Students will be given a copy of the poem through an individual Google Document. It will be sent privately so that no personal information is being shared between students or teacher!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
