Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Schedule of Works:
5 of Shakespeare’s most famous plays in Graphic Novel format

Students will learn about what it was like to live in Shakespeare's time. Students will learn about societal roles and the Theater (5 Act Structure) before jumping into our play (Plays may change based on the age group in the class).

In our classes students will analyze various elements of Figurative Language, Theme, Plot. We will also act out various passages and discuss the reading done for homework.

Throughout the lessons we will discuss concepts that are still relevant today and see just how much we owe from our modern culture to Shakespeare. Where available we will also watch and compare adaptations of the plays.

We will start each Act in class, but students may be asked to finish a Scene for homework.

Students will have a choice between 3 different final projects-- due within a week of the last class.

    Profile
    Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.

I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.

My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.

My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
