Description
Class Experience
There's been a long fascination throughout history with shipwrecks and the treasure that they could hold, and the United Nations estimates that there are at least three million shipwrecks on the ocean floors. Shipwreck stories have always been so intriguing to me and I find myself always wanting more and more information. Are you like that? I want to share what I have discovered about these tragedies that happened out at sea. In this class, the students will "travel" with me to the various...
This class is taught in English.
Students will expand their knowledge of famous shipwrecks from history and learn about many famous people and historic events that surround some of the various wrecks.
I have been a teacher for 30 years. My favorite things to include into my lessons are human interest stories. You can learn a lot about history based on human interests. I have been researching various topics for 30 years and developing lesson around those topics. I include multiple learning strategies to reach all learning styles. I become totally absorbed in my lesson research and make it as exciting as one can make it. I never stop learning and encourage my students to never stop learning.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Informal assessment through games and discussion.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For the external sources - Nearpod, Blooket, and Kahoot!, students will not need their own account. I will send a link through the chat that will send them directly to the lesson or game. From there, they will only need to add their first name and then join the lesson or game. Nearpod is where I can put the whole lesson and have the students view it on their end through Nearpod. This allows things to be more clear. I also can create various games and activities using this lesson format. Blooket and Kahoot! are used to play games based on what we learned. When students join, they will be competing against others in the classroom. Blooket is like Kahoot but way better. This class is not meant to be scary although the event leading up to the shipwreck or the immediate aftermath may be scary for some children. You know your child's sensitivity level. This class is NOT for everyone. You should be a fan shipwrecks and exploration to take this class. There will be stories about people who have died. There will be stories about people who have been killed. There will be stories about the people doing the killing like when a ship is bombed. There will be stories where survivors had to eat their dogs. There will be extremely sad stories.
I use many sources for this class and research. I have books and I scour the internet looking for all the information about the shipwrecks that I have learned about in the past. I loved adding more to my knowledge of these things so I continue building that knowledge by researching. Most of my information comes from various websites. This allows me get a well rounded class that is packed with interesting facts about the subject.
