Sewing Workshop, Learn to Sew a Simple Skirt
In this 90 minute workshop, learners will learn to take measurements, calculate yardage of fabric and create an elastic waist skirt. We will go over sewing machine basics and safety all in a fun, encouraging and body positive atmosphere.

Class Experience
In this workshop learners will create their own elastic waist skirt (or create one for a friend or family member if they prefer) We will go over machine basics and safety, important sewing tools, measuring a person, measuring fabric, simple pattern making basics, hemming, inserting elastic and much more. I have been sewing my whole life and I have 7 years experience teaching sewing to kids as young as 5! I love teaching sewing to kids and seeing the awesome things that they create!
1 file available upon enrollmentSewing Machine (pre-threaded in a matching thread) Iron and Ironing board. (if your learner is not experienced using an iron, we can either skip theses steps or feel free to be close by to help with these steps) Scissors (appropriate for fabric) Measuring tape Seam ripper Sewing pins Hardy safety pin Chalk or pencil (to mark fabric) Cotton Fabric, such as a quilters cotton found in countless fun prints online or at your local fabric store. If you have time please prewash your fabric and iron flat. 1 yard of fabric, learners (or skirt recipients) whose hip measurements are 36 inches or more (measurement around the fullest part of the hip) should plan on a yard and a 3/4 of fabric. 1 yard, 1 inch wide elastic Matching thread Print out of worksheet (provided digitally) and pencil Please feel free to message me with questions

In this workshop I will be going over lots of safety rules! We will be using a sewing machine, scissors and possibly an iron. All these items can be potentially dangerous if used incorrectly. Please discuss the importance of following safety rules with your learner and feel free to be close by to help your learner if needed.
