Class Experience
My teaching style focuses on practice over perfection. Students should feel able to try techniques out and make mistakes, as that is the only way we learn. I never criticize or talk down to students as that is a great hindrance to learning. I encourage students to give their best effort, and recognize they will improve with each project. Many sewing classes teach you to sew only prescribed styles from specific patterns. This tutoring class provides the opportunity for students to select the project they would like to work on and receive one on one guidance to complete the project. Students will learn specific skills as needed for each project. This target student for this class would be a learner who has completed a few projects and wants to learn at a more personalized pace than standard sewing classes. However, total beginner students are welcome as well! Specific topics include: - how to read a pattern - stitch types - finishing techniques such as using a serger, zig-zag stitch, and pinking shears - how to prepare fabric for sewing Potential sewing projects (if you need ideas): - knit t-shirt - woven dress - button up shirt - elastic waist pants - pillow case - book bag
