Class Experience
Hub of Curiosity offers a great variety of sewing classes on Outschool. In order for a learner to be successful in our group sewing classes, they should have an understanding of the parts and functions of their individual sewing machine. During this 1:1 session, newer sewists will meet with one of our experienced sewing instructors to build a solid foundation that will serve them well as they dive into future sewing projects. Discussion topics will include: - Types of needles and how to change a needle - Types of thread - How to fill and insert a bobbin - Changing stitch style and length - Practice stitching Learners are also welcome to bring questions to the session. Upon enrolling, we ask learners to share the make/model of their sewing machine in the classroom, along with any questions they'd specifically like to address during the session. Because each sewing machine is slightly different, this discussion is best completed in a 1:1 environment. Many learners feel confident and ready to sew after one session, but multiple sessions can certainly be booked as well.

McKenzi (she/her) is a young educator who is excited to share her passion for sewing with future learners! After receiving a BA in Fashion Design from Arizona State University, she pursued a sewer career in New York City where she found herself working as a seamstress in luxury furniture making. However, after her many years as a Teachers Aid for college-level sewing classes, McKenzi decided teaching is her calling! With years of experience in many forms of sewing, including costuming and couture work, McKenzi is excited to share her knowledge, and explore new levels of creativity, with the next generation. One of her favorite ways to use her sewing skills is upcycling clothing, which focuses on recycling and repurposing textiles into something new! In addition to her wealth of sewing knowledge, McKenzi contributes vibrant and fun energy to the classroom with her hands-on, example based, teaching style.
