Description

Class Experience

Students will learn sewing fundamentals, some intermediate techniques, and basic design skills while developing their first-ever 5 piece mini-collection. They will learn about their sewing machine, how to measure the body and make size decisions based on the measurements.  Students will get a basic understanding of fractions for seam construction. 

Students will learn how to put together a cohesive collection together using inspiration, color combinations, and trim options.

I design and make very technical garments (bras and swimwear)
I own and operate an online custom lingerie business servicing cancer survivors and women of many sizes for the past 8 years.
Students will be assigned sewing projects to complete weekly.  Students will upload videos on occasion to demonstrate they comprehend and have completed assignments.  Students will complete worksheets and handouts outside of class.  The worksheets and handouts should take less than 20 minutes to complete.  Sewing times could vary with each project and the student's skill level.
TOOLS LIST Printer Home or Professional Sewing Machine Scotch or similar Tape Ruler Scissors Chalk pencil Pencil Pins Needles Shape Tool Tape Measure REQUIRED MATERIALS BY THE WEEK Week 3 – Mask 10” x 6” Main Fabric 10” x 6” Lining Fabric 10” x 12” Batting 18” Elastic Week 4 – Slippers 44” wide heavyweight home decorator or quilting weight cotton ½ yard for exterior fabric 1/Yard for lining ½ yard 44” wide medium weight fusible Interfacing Week 5 – Tunic 2.5 Yards fabric .25 yards Interfacing, polyester thread in the color of the fabric Week 6 - Kimono Robe 2.25 Yards fabric .25 yards Interfacing, polyester thread in the color of the fabric Week 7 – Drawstring Pajama Bottoms 2.50 Yards fabric 1 ½ Yards elastic polyester thread in the color of the fabric  
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Escape rooms, scavenger hunts, worksheets, and sewing assignments are used to assess comprehension.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will operate a sewing machine and iron during this course.  Parents may want to be onhand when their learner is working to complete their projects.  
No additional resources are required to complete this course.
