In this class we will work together to learn to sew a dress for 18" dolls. Day 1: Picking your fabric - we will discuss types of fabric and what fabrics are appropriate for this project and prepare our pattern for cutting. Students will need to purchase (or otherwise source) the fabric for their project between day 1 and day 2. Day 2: Cutting your pattern - will will work together to cut our pattern/fabric. We will be discussing grains and directional patterns. If there is time we will begin sewing. Day 3& 4: Sewing day - we will be doing the sewing of our items this day. Your student will need access to a sewing machine (and adult supervision as necessary) this day. We should be able to do most of the sewing during class but your child may require a bit more machine time after class if they need to finish up. Please note that this is a leveled class. Each student is required to know how to accomplish the tasks in the previous levels before beginning classes of a higher level as I will no longer be covering those skills in higher level courses. If students need help learning a skill they have missed in a previous level class please message me and I can point you to a class where we teach that skill or set up a private lesson to make sure the skill is learned. Novice: straight stitches, hems, casings, elastic Beginner: straight stitching, some hand sewing, applying snaps Confident Beginner: gathering, hook & loop tape (aka velcro) Intermediate: fold over elastic, stretch lace, bias tape, pleats, darts, zippers, and pockets Advanced Intermediate: sizing techniques Experienced: beading, buttonholes, welt pockets Advanced: couture techniques, french seams
Learning Goals
Students will have a better understanding of fabrics, patterns (and instructions) and basic sewing methods on knit fabrics after finishing this class.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will need to have access to a working sewing machine for this class. The instructor will be using an older version of this machine: https://amzn.to/2XtCcsY
Students are responsible for knowing how to turn on, and thread their spacific machine prior to beginning class. If you need help with these steps often craft store employees (who you can meet with personally) and/or youtube videos are of great assistance. Please let the instructor know prior to class if you are still struggling and we will find a way to help.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young Univeristy - Idaho
Hello! I'm Aubrey and I am mom to 9 crazy children ages four through sixteen. We live on a homestead in Idaho where we raise rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ducks, quail, goats, pigs and sheep.
I have a degree in Math Education and one in Family History but I love to teach a number of subjects. I absolutely love meeting new students! My favorite thing about teaching is helping my students to learn to use the tools that I am giving them in their daily life. Join my classes to learn about math, English, history and many more homestead themed topics to help you complete daily tasks and possibly find a new hobby in the process.
I'm excited to meet you!
