In this class we approach sewing as engineering. A good engineer makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible. Why reinvent the wheel right? So we will start with a circle project. We review the properties of a circle, during which we will be drawing and labeling these properties. By doing this we will see some real life application for math. This becomes our pattern for out project. Students will need to already know how to use a sewing machine. This class does NOT teach...
Students will learn how to make a pattern for a project using math skills; and recognize practical uses for math. The concepts we will review in this class are: radius/radii, diameter, circumference, ratio of diameter to circumference, and what that is called, and the formulas for finding the circumference. They will learn engineering design steps which involves designing, building, and testing something.
Homework will be to clean up their work space, and to post a picture of the finished project in the classroom. Optionally it will be to add to or improve on the original project.
