Sew Fun - Stitch Corner
This on-going class will give students the opportunity to continue to use their beginning sewing skills to make small projects each week, learn a bit of trivia and practice essential sewing techniques.

1 hour per week. Sewing is a very individual skill and some students may need to work on projects at home between meetings and it is recommended. Detailed How-To videos and/or documents will be available for all projects.Class Experience
This ongoing class is designed for students who have completed Beginner I and II or who are confident with sewing on a machine on their own. Each week, our sewing enthusiasts will explore and practice a sewing skill. In addition, each week in the Sew Fun Sewing Studio - Stitch Corner students will use these skills to create fun projects to use, wear, and give as gifts. Each week the students will receive a detailed how-to sheet with diagrams and pictures for use in and after class. There will always be time for students to "Sew & Tell" as students are always proud of what they have created. This ongoing class runs in a 15 week cycle offered twice each school year. Projects are independent of each other and students can join in at any time. Topics covered: Sewing Skills – an important part of any “sewist “is their skills toolbox. The following skills are taught throughout the sessions o Hand and Machine stitches and their uses o Importance of pressing o Using a PDF pattern o Seam finishes o Machine “troubles” and maintenance o Inside/Outside curves o Professional looking corners o Types of trim and how to apply o Using Bias Tape o Gathering/Shirring o Sewing with elastic o Sewing a hem o Using interfacing o Reading a commercial pattern o And much, much more including student requests Project Ideas and How-Tos – each project will be presented in class via three camera views and students will follow along with Mrs. P. Some projects will need additional out of class time to complete, but full How-To PDF directions for each project will be available for printing. Sample of projects (not necessarily in this order) o Simple Totes – we will explore many types o Drawstring bag o Fabric baskets and boxes o Fabric rolls - for colored pencils, jewelry or paint/make-up brushes o Sewing machine cover o Sachet pillows o Phone charging station o Patchwork pillow o Drawstring backpack o Pattern weights o Drawstring make-up bag o Headbands and bows o Sewing room accessories o Simple garment construction and many more To fully participate in this on-going class, students should be confident in their sewing machine skills with knowledge of the basic machine stitches and have an iron available to use for pressing.

Parental Guidance
Parental guidance may be needed to help with rethreading sewing machines or help with pressing.
Supply List
A detailed supply list will be available to all enrolled students before their first meeting. Weekly supplies will be available 1-week prior to meetings. Some of the supplies needed: A basic sewing machine in good working order Basic sewing notions - needles, thread, fabric (small remnants and a collection of fat quarters is very useful for the projects), pins, fabric scissors, fabric markers/chalk, tape measure, ruler The cost of commercial patterns if the student chooses to use them
