Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how to understand the fundamental parts of a pattern such as sizing, fabric types and amounts, and the most common terms and symbols found on commercial sewing patterns.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts with a focus on costuming and performance and a Master’s of Library and Information Science. I have over 30 years of experience in sewing and embroidery and have taught hand sewing and machine sewing in both one on one and group settings.
No homework will be assigned but students will be provided with a measurement sheet and a vocabulary list to help them when looking for patterns.
Students are welcome to attend class with a sewing pattern they may have questions about or wish to reference (optional). Otherwise no other materials are needed for class. For after class: A downloadable measurement chart and vocabulary list will be provided for reference. Students will also need a flexible tailor’s style measuring tape for measurement taking if they plan to sew items of clothing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be discussing how to take accurate measurements for clothing sizing during this class. Please be aware of this if your learner is sensitive to this subject.
We will look at portions of sewing patterns for both clothing and non-clothing items.
