US Grade 7
This class is interactive, where I will break concepts down and check for understanding throughout the class. I scaffold and adjust my pacing to suit the needs of the students. I will use visuals, mnemonics, real-world examples, discussion, and guided notes to ensure a deep understanding. Student participation is expected. I strive to make learning fun and instill confidence in the student. Each class will begin with a 5-minute breakdown of the previous class’s homework. This is to make sure that everyone retained the lesson and can complete the assignment without help. I use the “I do, We do, You do” model to encourage retention and build confidence. After teaching a concept, I will explain a real-world example, guide the students in solving a problem, and then let them solve one independently to ensure they understand the concept. This is not intended to teach a full grade level for the first time; this is a review course to enhance the student’s math skills. We will review all foundational math learned in 7th grade to give the student a strong start to 8th grade math. This is also great for students who are currently in 8th grade, but could use a refresher on the foundational math. Students should have completed 7th grade, be in 7th grade, or be planning to skip 6th grade math. We will have class 2 times a week for 11 weeks. The following is our tentative schedule: Week 1 (Date TBD): Understand integers and absolute value. Add, subtract, multiply, & divide negative numbers Week 2 (Date TBD): Order of operations, convert, compare, and order rational numbers, and calculate fractions and decimals Week 3 (Date TBD): Solve one-step equations and simplify expressions Week 4 (Date TBD): Solve two-step equations. Write, graph, & solve inequalities Week 5 (Date TBD): Percentages, rates, and proportions Week 6 (Date TBD): Simple interest, taxes, markup, & discounts Week 7 (Date TBD): Constant of proportionality, Direct variation, & Slope Week 8 (Date TBD): Statistics Week 9 (Date TBD): Plane Geometry (Polygons & angles) Week 10 (Date TBD): Area & Perimeter. Solids & nets Week 11 (Date TBD): Volume & surface area. Probability
